Cutting out the familiar

Why/how am I still awake at 02:51 considering I climbed Snowdon yesterday? My body is still aching (my butt especially) yet, somehow, I'm wide awake.

Penarth Pier

Our walk around Cosmeston Lake ended with paying Penarth Pier a visit and devouring chips and ice cream as pigeons kept us company. It really is the simple things in life that make you smile.

Folksy Beige and Mini Southerndown Photo Diary

Blazer- Vintage// Top and Shoes- New Look// Jeans- River Island// Bag- Next// Necklace- Topshop

Last week my parents, my younger brother and I went down for a drive and a walk along the stunning Southerndown Beach in Ogmore. There's something very precious about spending quality time with your family amidst our busy schedules with work and university, it really was so beautiful being able to be in their company.
Just like everyone else, I am head over heels in love with the 70's trend and who can blame us. This pretty, folksy New Look top is in fact my older sisters but I am forever pinching her clothes just because I can. Don't judge me. I love the continuous pattern of the motif and the flattering peplum shape too. The turquoise accents on the necklace compliments the whole 'folksy' feel of my outfit because a subtle addition of accessories really can add that finishing touch to your whole outfit. I decided to throw my beige Vintage blazer on top because I love the relaxed, yet structured look that it evokes.
Note to self: wear more comfortable footwear the next time you go for a walk.

Hope you've had a lovely weekend.

Nostalgia and pressed flowers

Went for the loveliest of walks down the Taff Trail today. I picked some wildflowers to press in my book because I remember how much I used to enjoy doing that when I was young. There's something very beautiful about how the smallest things can fill you up with different emotions that are a mixture of nostalgia and contentment.

Hope you're having a lovely day.

Eugenides

Dress- H&M// Blanket- Hand made by my beautiful mum

There is nothing that I enjoy more than reading a good book under the sunshine, being able to enjoy nature simply by feeling the freshly cut grass brush up against my skin really makes me appreciate the beauty of Summer. I finished 'The Virgin Suicides' by Jeffrey Eugenides a few weeks ago and loved it as much as the film. I'm currently reading Chuck Palahniuk's 'Damned' and so far, I am finding it most difficult to put it down.

Are you currently reading anything?

Crafty Tuesday

Perhaps I'm showing my age, but quirky and pretty homeware pieces gladdens my heart. I bought this gorgeous wooden housing shelf from Tiger Stores a few months ago and it's basically been sitting on my bedside table for all that time so today I vamped it up and painted some of my own motifs and designs on it. Pretty cute, eh? The cacti's are from Ikea and they look perfect once they're placed prettily inside the little house.
I am an avid movie print collector and although I've framed a few of my purchases (which you can check out on my instagram @kimkimipie) I'm still eagerly building up my collection and I'm only adding more to my wall, so stay tuned for that post!
Hope you're having a good week so far!

Marching on

Well, hello there! To write, 'long time, no see' might be an understatement here because I think it's been around seven months since my last post. Yikes! So if you are reading this and you're still faithfully following this little blog of mine then, thank you. Let me explain the reasons behind me going AWOL. From August last year up to January of this year, I was working as a PR and Marketing Assistant for a designer children's company in Cardiff and alongside that, I was also working as a sales assistant in retail. So I was basically working 7 days a week which was a completely ridiculous and crazy thing to do, I know.
During those six months I could physically and mentally experience how the exhaustion was affecting not only my well-being but also my relationship with those closest to me. Now, I don't to get my violin out and start telling you a sob story, but it's only through reflection that I am now fully aware of how hard I was making myself work and actually how very stupid I was.
Blogging has always been something that I have enjoyed so as you can imagine, it was absolute torture for me to be putting it off for all those months. I just didn't have the time, energy or motivation so yes, I well and truly lost my blogging mojo but I'm so happy that I've regained that.
So I'm going to close this little post just to say 'hello' again and I'm so excited to be producing posts on a regular basis again. Just to say a massive THANK YOU to the gorgeous and talented Olivia for tarting up my blog for me. It truly means a lot.
Please tell me what you've been up to lately, guys? How's your week going? :)

Feeling Creative

Hello everyone. I hope you had a great weekend and you're enjoying this glorious weather that we've been blessed with. Today's post is a little different to my usual outfit post and monthly favourites (still need to get my February and March post up- oops).

I'm going to show you how to transform your old, lifeless shirts into a cute and on trend cropped top. So here we go :)

--------------------
You will need:
-Old Shirt (Charity Shops have some fantastic ones)
-Fabric Scissors
-Chalk
-Pins
-Sewing Machine

I picked up this pink Gap shirt from a charity shop just for a pound because I absolutely fell in love with the colour. To be honest, if it had been in my size then I probably would have left it alone but as it looked so out of proportion when I wore it, I've decided to do this mini tutorial to show you just how easy it is to create your own.

1) I began by using a chalk to subtly mark out just how cropped I wanted the top to be. Note: Make sure you leave seam allowance and make leave it 2 inches longer than you want it to as it'll help you to sew with ease later.

2) I turned the shirt inside out and started to use pins to fold up the seams on the bottom and on the sleeves.
3) Start sewing carefully, making sure that you remove each pin as you go along.
4) Here you go. :)  You're super easy and cute cropped top is finished. (Note to self: using an iron won't hurt).

--------------------

I hope that this post helped you and inspired you to create and rework into the clothes that you already have. I do apologise if I wasn't clear enough on some steps, don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like me to go over anything in detail.

Have you made/designed anything recently? :)
