Recipe: Chocolate Cake with Mascarpone icing
Friday, 20 November 2015
Happy Friday! Over on my Instagram (@kimkimipie) I posted a picture of this chocolate cake a few days ago so I thought I'd share the recipe with you today.
I followed Mary Berry's recipe, but I didn't fully commit as I altered the icing and filling to a mascarpone one as opposed to the double cream and apricot jam that Mez Bez has used. So I've only jazzed it up a little as I clearly love all the calories, but the sponge is super fudgey and the mascarpone compliments it so well. Oh, and did I mention that it's stupidly easy to make as well?

Shirt and Brooch- Vintage// Skirt- Boohoo// Bag- Next// Midi Rings- H&M
Went down Cosmeston Lake in Penarth with my younger brother and my parents last week. Through the picture's it's difficult to testify the beauty and vastness of the lake and it's surroundings, but I have always appreciated being around nature and taking in every little sound, texture and scent.
What made that day so meaningful for me was the simplicity of going for a walk to connect with nature and spending time with my family to catch up and to just really enjoy each other's company. Bliss!
I've always had an affinity for thrifting and I appreciate the history behind vintage clothing and accessories. Both my shirt and brooch are thrifted and I love mixing them up with current pieces from the high street and from online as well.

Top- Primark// Skirt- Topshop// Brooch and Bag- Vintage
Anything nautical and Bardot tops seem to go hand in hand for me. I picked up this skirt from the Topshop sale a few weeks ago for just a tenner and it's basically been my go-to skirt this Summer.
As you can most probably tell if you're reading from the UK, these pictures were taken a few weeks ago when the sun was gracing us with it's glorious presence. Although hearing the rain when you're tucked up in bed with a big mug of green tea is somewhat therapeutic, so I guess it's not all too bad.

Jumper- Boohoo// Skirt and Rings- H&M // Bag- Next
These pictures were kindly taken by my sister about a month ago. I had every intention of uploading them as soon as they were taken but I refrained. I don't actually know why. I often find that I lose my blogging 'mojo' and can't quite figure out exactly why this may be. However, I am so determined to fully get back into it because I can recall of how happy it once made me feel. I know that sounds a little dramatic and overwhelming but for a long period of time, blogging was an escapism for me. It was a platform for me to share my interests and inspirations. It was my little world where the number of hits that I got on each post, or how many followers that I garnered were so irrelevant because my love for it was a lot more meaningful than that. I know that I'll get back into it, eventually. I don't want my blog to be predominantly based around fashion anymore and want to transform it into a platform where I can share my other interests and my journey in faith as well. Even if the contents are unrelatable for the majority of people who'll stumble across my posts, I'll find comfort in their authenticity and in the hope that it will be relevant to a few people. I think that's what matters the most.
Just to conclude, I thought I'd talk a little about this outfit as it's one of my favourites to wear over the Summer. Monochrome is one of my go to trends mainly because of its timeless and effortless qualities. I love the instant flirty twist that an off the shoulder top adds to an outfit and I've found that I'm more drawn to Bardot tops and anything quite loose fitting around the neck for this season, especially. The best part is knowing that this style can make the transition from Summer to Autumn and I've got aplenty of them folded neatly in my wardrobe. Hurrah!

Parka Weather
Shirt, Belt and Brooch- Vintage// Trousers- River Island// Brogues- Missguided// Parka- Asos
Sunday was a miserable day. So miserable that I had to dig out my parka from my wardrobe to wear for the day. Raincoats in July shouldn't be such a thing but sadly, it is.
At 5'2 and having ridiculously short legs, I avoid wearing trousers when I can, but I do have an exception for anything that's high waisted, dogtooth and/or printed. Anything that covers up my thighs and elongates my legs is a winner in my eyes.

Folksy Beige and Mini Southerndown Photo Diary

Blazer- Vintage// Top and Shoes- New Look// Jeans- River Island// Bag- Next// Necklace- Topshop
Last week my parents, my younger brother and I went down for a drive and a walk along the stunning Southerndown Beach in Ogmore. There's something very precious about spending quality time with your family amidst our busy schedules with work and university, it really was so beautiful being able to be in their company.
Just like everyone else, I am head over heels in love with the 70's trend and who can blame us. This pretty, folksy New Look top is in fact my older sisters but I am forever pinching her clothes just because I can. Don't judge me. I love the continuous pattern of the motif and the flattering peplum shape too. The turquoise accents on the necklace compliments the whole 'folksy' feel of my outfit because a subtle addition of accessories really can add that finishing touch to your whole outfit. I decided to throw my beige Vintage blazer on top because I love the relaxed, yet structured look that it evokes.
Note to self: wear more comfortable footwear the next time you go for a walk.
Hope you've had a lovely weekend.
