Having lived in Maesteg for over 10 years, it was safe to say that the town didn't exactly offer it's share of cute little cafes for catch ups with your friends where you could gorge on cake to your hearts content. So you can imagine my delight when I heard about the little gem that is Iced Cake Parlour opening its doors earlier this year. Although I moved to Cardiff three years ago, I'm still the best of friends with the girls I went to school with and we often have our food dates and catch ups whenever we can. They usually venture down to Cardiff because, obviously there's more choices available, but in this instance I absolutely insisted that I come up to Maesteg for a change purely so I could sample Iced Cake Parlour.
When you walk in, you're greeted by an array of delicious cupcakes, brownies and cakes. The decor is aesthetically pleasing. Think rustic walls, Wes Anderson palettes, quirky artwork sporadically placed on the walls, deliberately mismatched china, wooden seats and a gorgeous burst of fresh flowers placed on each table.
After swooning over the decor, I moved on to actually sampling their beautiful bakes. I sunk my teeth into their Pink Champagne cupcake and Oreo cheesecake, and oh my word were they both delicious. The cheesecake was creamy with the crunchiest base, which is basically everything we want from a cheesecake, right? Super tasty! I'm pretty impressed with myself for demolishing both in one sitting, but it was definitely worth it. Iced Cake Parlour also offer a high tea, the tastiest sandwiches, homemade quiches and other savouries that make this the perfect destination for lunch with the ladies or even if you just wanted to grab a coffee and a cake on the go.
I'm so happy that Iced Cake Parlour has opened in Maesteg as it's aesthetics and menu offer something different and I know that they'll go from strength to strength. I'm already looking forward to my next visit there!
